Kanthapuram seeks end to mistakes in textbooks

KOZHIKODE: Kanthapuram A.P. Aboobacker Musliyar, general secretary, Samastha Kerala Sunni Education Board, has warned that mistakes that appear continuously in books and study aids hurting religious sentiments will lead to serious repercussions.
In a statement here on Sunday, the Musliyar said that mistakes in books and study aids prepared by committees under the Education Department were unacceptable. To view these only as errors and suspending the officials responsible could not be justified. He said the government should be ready to handle the education sector with more responsibility as it determined the future of lakhs of students. A screening committee of religious scholars should be formed to avoid mistakes in lessons with a religious content. Such lessons should be prepared through discussions with the committee. Otherwise, religious harmony in the State would be ruptured.
He said it would be dangerous even if only one copy of the book with mistakes was distributed. The tragedy of it would continue further.
